A Week of Work Experience At Platinum Recruitment
From meeting the team to shadowing key departments, Elkie’s time with us offered her a hands-on glimpse into the world of recruitment & the many roles that make it all happen.
Day 1: First Impressions & Office Tour
Elkie’s first day was all about introductions and settling into the workplace environment. She was warmly welcomed by the Platinum team who were eager to share their knowledge and daily routines.
After a friendly meet-and-greet, Elkie was given a guided tour of our offices. From meeting rooms to breakout areas, she got a behind-the-scenes look at where the action happens. The fast-paced yet friendly atmosphere made a strong first impression and set the tone for the rest of the week.
Days 2-3: Behind the Scenes with the Operations Team
Next, Elkie spent two days shadowing our Operations Team made up of administrators, managers and our social media executive. These roles are the backbone of Platinum Recruitment, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
On day two, Elkie observed how our admin team manages communications, maintains accurate records and supports consultants with day-to-day operations.
Day three was split between shadowing our Office Manager, Sam and Social Media Executive, Owain. Elkie gained insight into office management and the creative process behind our social media strategy.
This experience highlighted the importance of organisation, collaboration and adaptability in keeping a recruitment business running smoothly.
Lunch with the Director
Midweek, Elkie joined our Managing Director, Cameron and a few other team members for lunch at Nando’s.
It was a fantastic opportunity to chat in a relaxed setting about career aspirations, hear the story behind Platinum Recruitment’s journey and enjoy some loaded fries.
The team shared advice and personal stories, encouraging Elkie to keep an open mind and explore different career paths.
Shadowing the Consultants
On day 4 & 5 Elkie joined the Consultants to see recruitment in action. She observed how they connect candidates with clients, manage the recruitment process and build strong relationships through effective communication.
From sitting in on calls to watching CV reviews, Elkie saw firsthand how dynamic and people focused the recruitment industry is. She quickly recognised that success in this field comes from teamwork, attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills.
WRAPPING UP
On her final day, we took time to reflect with Elkie on everything she’d experienced. Our goal was to give her a well-rounded view of the different roles within the business and the career paths each one offers.
Even in just one week Elkie gained valuable insights into how different departments work together and developed a deeper appreciation for workplace collaboration. (Experiences like this build confidence and instil key values such as professionalism, curiosity and resilience.)
TAKING THE NEXT STEPS
As Elkie heads into her final year of school, we wish her all the very best with her upcoming GCSE year. It’s been a pleasure having her with us and we’re confident she’ll approach her studies with the same curiosity and enthusiasm she brought to Platinum.
Her time with us highlighted something we’re really proud of: there’s no single path into recruitment. At Platinum, we have consultants who joined us straight from school at 16, choosing to dive into the world of work instead of college. Others have come to us with first-class degrees and academic accolades. Both routes and everything in between bring unique strengths to our team.
