The opportunity to business partner, influence SLT meetings with your analysis, and drive an expansion plan – it’s a stonewall opportunity for a Management Accountant looking for the next step in their career.
Why is the role available?
The business has outgrown its finance function, they need additional resource and someone who can take ownership of the management accounts, end-to-end with variance analysis and commentary, then deliver that to a diverse audience, finance and non-finance staff.
Right now, the Finance Director completes all of the above for this entity, and the simple truth is that he doesn’t have the capacity to service all of the above as well as the strategic work for the rest of the Group. He has stressed, however, that you won’t be left to fend for yourself here. You will have his total support and mentorship, along with that of the finance team, to ensure this hire is a total success.
What will I be involved in?
The role will be diverse and varied, but your focus is the management accounts, and how this information feeds into the bigger picture, as well as the rest of the group. Bit of an idea below:
- Preparation of the monthly management accounts and reporting of the company’s monthly performance against budget
- Assist the Group Finance Manager with the production of monthly margin analysis, providing insightful commentary and analysis at both an individual project and company level
- Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and overhead analysis
- Management of WIP including weekly reporting pack preparation
- Production of the weekly cash forecast, including the performance of regular bank reconciliations and processing of payment runs
Am I right for the role?
What they need is someone who is able to produce management accounts end-to-end, as well as a good knowledge of the ledgers. You won’t touch on the transactional side of the accounts, but it’s key to have an understanding of this crucial role. Ultimately you’re the one finalising the pack, so you need to spot if someone hasn’t reconciled something correctly, or posted a PO with the right code.
The business is open on background; if you’re a studier they will pay for study support for you to qualify, if you’re established and study isn’t on your list of priorities, this is also totally fine. What they’re looking for is ambition, someone who wants to stay long-term with the business and is genuinely excited about having ownership of the accounts for a business set to double turnover in the next couple of years.
