If you love working within the construction industry, producing accounts in project-based environment, and reporting directly into a business owner, this is the role for you.
Working for a growing SME subcontractor to the construction industry, reporting directly into a brilliant Managing Director who has plans to scale-up the business via acquisitions alongside organic growth over the next few years – And having this role in place is absolutely critical to achieving this growth.
You’ll be brought in initially to establish a robust in-house accounting framework. Currently, the majority of the accounting is covered by their external accountants, but for the business to grow, the MD now sees the need for an in-house finance function.
You’ll work closely with the MD and QS team to establish what’s needed, where the pressure points are with regards to finance and ops working in harmony, you’ll liaise with the external accountants daily gradually bringing processes in-house, and you’ll lead the establishment management accounts, MI info, reporting down to the margins on each project and so onβ¦It’s a full finance overhaul project.
It’s a fantastic role for someone who wants to really put their own stamp on finance, working for an MD that equally wants you to lead this project. This isn’t an MD who has a “well we’ve always done it this way” mentality, he is forward-thinking, commercial and understands that for this person to be successful in the role, he will need to take their guidance and input on what’s required from a financial perspective. This MD will empower your ideas.
Given the specifics of the industry, the MD is only considering Accountants with a strong construction background, i.e. full understanding of CIS, subcontractor work, projects, working with QS teams, costings and WIP. Qualifications aren’t the be all and end all for this business, the most important thing is construction experience and someone with the passion for implementation, working within the fast-paced environment of a SME, and someone genuinely excited by the prospect of this role.
